Alief ISD Principal Mary Williams Encourages the Entrepreneurial Spirit in Her Students

For 17-year-old Teju Adeniji, a Taylor High School student in Alief ISD, cupcakes are only the beginning of her sweet entrepreneurial career. The teenager’s baking venture, Your Sweet Escapes, was born last year when Adeniji participated in Young Entrepreneurs Academy, (YEA) an intensive program that teaches high school students how to start and run their own business.

Taylor High School principal Mary Williams knows that bridging the business and education worlds can boost students’ confidence, provide practical experience and an invaluable work ethic. So in 2013, she spearheaded an agreement between Alief ISD, Houston Community College and West Houston Chamber of Commerce, to bring YEA to her school.
