I recently renewed my membership with the Association of Women Communicationsand am psyched to be back surrounding by such creative, supportive folks in their Freelance Austin group.

Kickstarter’s concept of funding creative projects for artists, musicians, filmmakers and designers is brilliant. Here’s another great concept designed for writers. Writers pitch ideas, and readers vote on whether it should be published.

Not Your VFW’s Bingo Game

Tuesday, April 26, 2011

B-I-N-G-O! Remember that popular elementary school song? What is it about the game that brings kids, retired vets and the gays together?

What? Yep. Last weekend a group of girlfriends gathered for a rousing game of B9, N12, mc’d with a drag queen and the whole ‘diva’ theme. Have you heard about Gay Bingo?

Funny thing, halfway through the game we realized that Gay Bingo winners weren’t winning by the standard diagonal, vertical or horizontal game. For a group of intelligent women, we were completely out of our element. In a good way!

I have a new respect for those retirement home powerhouse players who manage four cards at a time. No wonder things get heated! Mix in a Diana Ross tune and a blue metallic dress and you’ve got Gay Bingo. Check out the videos here.

Shadows Bright as Glass

Earlier this week I listened to this interview on Fresh Air. The brain still remains such undiscovered territory.

It’s never to early to scope out a Halloween costume. Or an outfit for next Thursday.

National Geographic Channel and a team of scientists, engineers, and two world-class balloon pilots successfully launched a 16′ X 16′ house 18′ tall with 300 8′ colored weather balloons from a private airfield east of Los Angeles, and set a new world record for the largest balloon cluster flight ever attempted. The entire experimental aircraft was more than 10 stories high, reached an altitude of over 10,000 feet, and flew for approximately one hour.

Pretty cool.

We’ve moved on from transportable cupcake bakeries to more serious tasks, like mobile boutiques. Talk about a movable feast. (Sorry, Hemingway.)

Entrepreneurialism at its finest.
